Questa cupola ricopre il fegato, lo stomaco, la milza, il pancreas e pi\u00f9 gi\u00f9 gli intestini e le altre viscere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sopra, poggiati sulla cupola, troviamo i polmoni e il cuore protetti dalla cassa toracica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il diaframma \u00e8, insieme al cuore, uno dei muscoli pi\u00f9 potenti e attivi del corpo. Esso lavora continuamente e pu\u00f2 riposarsi solo fra l&#8217;espirazione e l&#8217;inspirazione, motivo per cui tanto importante \u00e8 la ritenzione del respiro a polmoni vuoti. E&#8217; questo l&#8217;unico momento in cui possiamo coscientemente rilassarlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il diaframma ha un ruolo determinante nella respirazione: quando noi inspiriamo, esso discende, la cupola si appiattisce, e sotto questa pressione la parte inferiore della vena cava si riempie di sangue che proviene dall&#8217;apparato digerente attraverso il fegato. Intanto, l&#8217;espansione della cassa toracica provoca nei polmoni una depressione, che richiama il sangue verso il cuore destro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante l&#8217;espirazione, si produce il contrario: il diaframma risale nella gabbia toracica e l&#8217;aria viziata pu\u00f2 cosi essere espulsa. Il sangue in cui si era imbevuta la spugnosa materia polmonare, dove s&#8217;\u00e8 liberato dai rifiuti gassosi e s&#8217;\u00e8 arricchito di ossigeno, viene sospinto verso il cuore sinistro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detto in altri termini: maggiore \u00e8 la quantit\u00e0 di aria che assorbiamo nei nostri polmoni, maggiore sar\u00e0 la quantit\u00e0 di sangue che viene richiamata; i polmoni fungono da pompa aspirante, sulla circolazione venosa. Possiamo asserire che il diaframma \u00e8 un secondo cuore, della stessa importanza del cuore vero e proprio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ci sorprende, allora che la respirazione yogica sia tanto benefica per il cuore? Quanto alla tensione nervosa, causa indiretta dell&#8217;insufficiente respirazione, essa non \u00e8 affatto estranea all&#8217;aumento allarmante del numero d&#8217;incidenti cardiaci, infarti, ecc&#8230; che diventa fatto corrente e non solo per le persone anziane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vediamo ora un altro aspetto importantissimo: dal momento in cui il diaframma riprende la sua posizione alta, alla fine dell&#8217;espirazione normale, cio\u00e8 non forzata, tutti i muscoli dell&#8217;apparato respiratorio si rilassano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questo \u00e8 un fatto capitale. In effetti, durante gli esercizi di rilassamento, distendiamo con cura tutta la muscolatura degli arti e del tronco, ma finch\u00e9 continua la respirazione, continuano a lavorare numerosi e importanti gruppi muscolari. Il totale rilassamento avviene solo quando anche i muscoli dell&#8217;apparato respiratorio sono rilassati, e come abbiamo visto, questo si produce solo alla fine di una normale espirazione (non forzata).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riassumendo, il diaframma, come un pistone, \u00e8 animato da un movimento alternato verticalmente nella gabbia toracica e ci\u00f2 provoca un massaggio ritmico molto efficace sugli organi addominali, stimolando la peristalsi intestinale, facilitando la digestione, combattendo la costipazione e favorendo l&#8217;eliminazione dei gas che a volte si formano nel tubo digerente.
